Liveline Debut: Herzog Park Renaming and Irish-Jewish Identity

I was on Liveline for the first time. This time I wasn’t on about education per se, though I did bring up education towards the end. It was about Herzog Park in Rathgar, which faced being de-named at a council meeting. I spoke about how I could see both sides of the argument, and perhaps if Herzog’s name was problematic that instead of erasing a Jewish name from the Irish landscape, it might be renamed to a different Irish Jewish name. It’s probably the most difficult interview I’ve ever done on radio as it’s such an emotive topic but I was heartened by the positive feedback I received from people. Only one negative one, which I half-expected anyway, which, in some ways explains why I feel I have faced more anti-Semitism than I ever did growing up in Ireland. I’m hoping to publish a few thoughts in this when I feel brave enough. https://www.rte.ie/radio/radio1/clips/22564481/
